The Most Important Meal of the Day!

Don't forget about Breakfast!

Breakfast is the most important meal of the day. Eating a breakfast in the morning gives students a good start to the day. Some benefits of eating breakfast are increased energy, better attention span and concentration, and can even promote weight loss! Think about it, what happens when you are hungry? Your stomach grumbles, you can only think about what you are going to eat, you might be cranky, and you may even feel nauseous because you are so hungry. Some quick and healthy breakfasts you can eat are eggs, any style; cereal and milk with a fruit; or oatmeal. Studies show that people who do not eat breakfast consume 40% more sweets, 55% more soft drinks, 45% fewer vegetables, and 30% less fruit. They are overall less healthy than those who do eat breakfast. It is very important to make time for breakfast in the morning. We need to set ourselves up for a healthy day, and we need to prepare for a healthy life!

Conjunctions: Coordinating conjunctions

Coordinating conjunctions are used to connect two independent clauses. After the first clause, there is a comma (,) followed by the conjunction and the second clause.

The coordinating conjunctions are: for, and, nor, but, or, yet, so

An easy mnemonic device to remember these is the acronym F A N B O Y S

Structure of sentences with a coordinating conjunction

Independent Clause + , + conjunction + Independent Clause

Examples:

Milo did not want to do his homework, nor did he want to watch tv.
Michael got on his bike, but he realized he had a flat tire.
Maria could eat chicken for dinner, or she could eat steak.
Melanie said she was unaware it was Halloween, yet she came to school in a costume.
